For our client in Basel we are looking for a Senior Accounting Specialist for a 1 year project (extension possible) * Job Title: Senior Accounting Specialist * Duration: Asap - 31/12/2022 * Location: Basel Job Purpose Responsible for general ledger activities of Swiss entities which includes coordination of monthly closing and reporting activities. Provide accounting and closing skills to ensure accurate accounts and timely reporting. Ensure high quality of financial data and guarantee compliance to Group and BU reporting standards as well as statutory requirements. Key Responsibilities: * Support of daily activities, the Financial Reporting in FCRS, the statutory closing preparation and analytical tasks in relation to financial reporting processes * Acting as a Business partner for various groups of users within the Group * Accounting & Reporting * Provides services at expected levels with a clear customer focus and escalates exceptions * Accountability for coordination of the monthly close process and general ledger accounting activities, including accruals, provisions, royalties, etc. * Responsibility for application of the Accounting Manual. * Lead the implementation of new accounting standards and new requirements according to the Accounting Manual (NAM). * Leading role in timely submission of financial information including general ledger, NPMR and FCRS. * Ensure high quality monthly reporting through processes such as Balance Sheet and P&L re-view * Ensure clear and proactive communication with stakeholders (local Finance organization, NVS C&R team, Group Treasury, Supply chain etc) * Responsibility for preparation and review of Balance Sheet accounts reconciliations in line with quality standard * Leading role in review and coordination of entire process of reconciliations. Ensure timely clean-up of overdue items. * Strive for best practices and efficiency * Preparation and/or review of additional external reporting requirements such as Swiss National Bank statistics * Key contact person for external auditors providing data and reports required for group and statutory audits * Change Management & Projects * Pro-active identification of opportunities to improve and optimize existing financial processes and leading role in projects designed to implement these improvements * Lead finance related process changes to achieve best practice by proactively identify-ing gaps to standards, initiating and formulating change projects with IT and Finance management * Be point of reference and expertise in the area of FRA for initiatives and projects led by other departments or sites * Lead Accounting and Reporting projects to increase effectiveness and efficiency * Proactively manage project status, potential gaps and next steps to ensure objectives are met * Support the R2R Manager in achieving the Objectives and process improvements. Foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders * Serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for related policies and processes, supports productivity objectives and continuous improvement, process changes and leading practices to have an efficient and effective process * Compliance and Internal Control: * Ensures all processes, policies and procedures are clearly defined, fully documented * Promote a "strong and no exception" control environment * Ensure relevant tax, compliance and audit reporting processes and relationships for the entity, providing necessary data to internal and external authorities * Ensure compliance with Accounting Manual (NAM), the Financial Controls Manual, regulatory requirements and SOX 404 through maintenance of relevant FRA controls, reconciliations, management of documentation (Standard Operating Procedures, workflows), self-assessment and testing * Support R2R Manager in ensuring correct system accesses, the set up/maintenance of the local chart of accounts/master data and cost center hierarchy * Change Management / Projects: * Pro-active identification of opportunities to improve and optimize existing financial processes and leading role in projects designed to implement these improvements * Lead finance related process changes to achieve best practice by proactively identifying gaps to standards, initiating and formulating change projects with IT and Finance management * Be point of reference and expertise in the area of FRA for initiatives and projects led by other departments or sites * Lead Accounting and Reporting projects to increase effectiveness and efficiency * Drives and monitors improvements to sustain a highly effective and efficient accounting and re-porting process, and realizes cost reduction opportunities including areas to harmonize and standardize processes Ideal Background * University degree preferably in Finance, or business school or professional accounting qualification. A Swiss certified diploma as accountant/auditor are a plus. * 5-7 years of experience in financial reporting and accounting department * Work experience in a large international context a plus. * Languages: Fluent in English, both written and spoken; German languages are a plus.
