With a team in Switzerland and on the ground in Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana, Hershey Trading GmbH oversees the day-to-day program management, communication with stakeholders (including project beneficiaries, implementing partners and funders), and monitoring of Cocoa For Good along with annually reporting on performance indicators and goals.
The Assistant Controller Trading is an essential member of the Corporate Controlling & Accounting team and is responsible for reporting of financial results for the Hershey legal entities in scope, ensuring accuracy, compliance with accounting standards, and timely delivery of financial statements. In addition, this role is responsible for statutory reporting, local tax filings & payroll accounting. This individual will bring a unique skillset in US & Swiss GAAP financial accounting & reporting, derivative accounting expertise and a proven track record to manage internal and external audit teams during financial and internal control audits.
Supporting the Controller Corporate Accounting, this position will serve as a strategic member of the Controllership team in International and will work closely with HSY’s HBP teams, as well as Commodity Procurement & Global Supply Chain, internal and external Audit (EY), Corporate Treasury & Tax to ensure accurate reporting/disclosure and full compliance with all external standards. The role is based in Zug, Switzerland.
Summary of major duties:
Financial Accounting and Reporting Process (US & Swiss GAAP) (30%):
- Prepare and review Hershey Trading GmbH’s financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements. Ensure compliance with US GAAP and other Swiss Code of Obligations (OR).
- Lead the financial accounting process for the legal entities in scope (Hershey Trading GmbH, Switzerland and its subsidiaries/branches), ensuring accurate and timely reporting of results, including key topics such as commodity derivatives, purchase-price-variance/PPV, inventory, cash and banking, accruals, investments, dividend, payroll and more.
- Conduct in-depth financial analysis of specific balance sheet & P&L items, such as commodity derivatives, tax accrual, inventory in transit, identifying trends, variances, and potential areas of improvement. Provide insights and recommendations based on the analysis.
- Collaborate with Corporate Controlling on special topics such as investments, intangible assets, impairments, lease accounting, dividend flow and other multi-functional/multi-entity projects
- Continuous improvement of accounting processes, including the reduction of manual journal entries, simplification and quality enhancement of account reconciliations.Summary of major duties:
Internal and External Audit (30%):
- Coordinate all entity specific audits for the business; this includes internal and external audits for financial processes as well as internal controls/SOX reviews
- Act as a Control owner for dedicated controls in the areas of commodities, physical procurement, IT, financial reporting for the Swiss entity
- Develop regular and effective education and awareness on the purpose of internal controls for the Swiss commodity and procurement team.
Direct and Indirect Taxes, Treasury, Payroll Accounting (20%):
- Complete quarterly tax reporting packages for Corporate with an estimate of income taxes under Swiss & US GAAP; apply concept of deferred taxes with temporary and permanent differences
- Review and submit VAT filings for Germany and Switzerland on a periodical basis (monthly for Germany, quarterly for Switzerland)
- Provide all necessary supporting documents for the annual Swiss tax return filing; Review and submit the Swiss tax return filing to the Swiss authorities
- Collaborate with Corporate treasury on agreements & execution of intercompany loans, dividend flow, investments, intangible assets, etc.
- Oversight on payroll accounting process for Switzerland based employees including reconciliations, true-ups, recharges, social security & wage tax process
Commodity Derivatives (15%):
- Accounting for commodity futures and options under US & Swiss GAAP
- Oversight on daily process for commodity futures and options including margin payments and reconciliation
Act as an ambassador for commodity related accounting and control topics – including HSY’s global commodity risk policy review.
Special Projects / Ad Hoc (5%):
Assist on special projects and ad hoc assignments / analyses, as needed.
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 8+ years of relevant experience
- Experience in public accounting (e.g., Big 4)
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and Swiss GAAP (OR) reporting requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Ability to read German is a plus, but not a requirement
- Understanding of Swiss tax system for enterprises, Swiss social security system for payroll and Swiss Code of Obligation for corporations
- Excellent project management and organizational skills with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Exposure to SAP S/4 Hana, Blackline software/tools preferred
- Demonstrates professional judgment and high standards for quality and attention to detail
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance with CPA license required.
8+ years of relevant experience, including public accounting (e.g., Big 4) with US GAAP / Swiss GAAP accounting expertise.
